I make sure I have some soft clean cotton rags, that I don’t mind getting dirty. The first thing is safety. Always treat a gun as if it is loaded. I don’t care if you know for a fact that you unloaded it the last time you used it. Treat it as if it’s loaded. Always point the muzzle in a safe direction, never at anyone. I know most of you know this, but I can’t preach gun safety enough. Please keep all your guns locked away from children. Use safety locks also. I always take the sling off, and remove the bolt. If you have a bolt action. Most of them are pretty simple. If you don’t know how refer to your owners manual. If you don’t have your manual you can look online if you have internet access. Once you have the bolt out, put the three pieces of the push rod together and put your wire brush on. Saturate the brush with solvent and coat the rod with solvent. Push the rod all the way through the breech end first then when you get the brush out of the other end pull it back through. Do this about ten times. Try not to let the rod touch the bore. Keep it as straight as possible. Take the brush off and attach the cleaning tip. Put a patch on and saturate it with solvent. And push it through and back.

And oiling them makes them easier to open and close. Now next season when you get after those big bucks your gun will be ready. All you will have to do is sight it in. I like to clean mine after sighting it in as well. When I was in the United States Army(God Bless our Troops) Cleaning our M- 1.
